Trade effluent is the wastewater produced by trade or industry that needs to be discharged into the public sewer system. This includes wastewater produced from things like vehicle washing, laundries, cooling systems and industrial production processes, but not wastewater from restaurants, hotels, toilet facilities and canteens.

Proper control of trade effluent is vital because, left unchecked, it can cause health problems, damage sewers and make it difficult to fully clean sewerage before it’s discharged into rivers and the sea.

Before companies can discharge trade effluent they must obtain a consent – a legal document that sets out the volume and type of discharge that they’re allowed
to release.

If you think you might need help with an existing or new trade effluent consent, please contact us or complete our enquiry form.
